"Homeopathic Spectrum".
Starting point: Innovation
In the summer of 2009, Narayana publishers wanted to launch a specialist homeopathic journal to be published in both German and English. The publisher’s catalogue included books by contemporary homeopaths who, in the 1990s, had begun presenting new ideas, methods and systems as wells as provings of unknown and new remedies at international seminars. To name but a few: there was the Dutchman Jan Scholten, who, with his extraordinary spirit of inquiry, adapted the periodic table of elements for homeopathy. There was the young Indian doctor Rajan Sankaran, who, with his concept of delusions, and somewhat later with the Sensation Method, delved into the psychological depths and the individual experience of illness. And then came Michal Yakir, who combined the classical botanical classification system with insights from developmental psychology. At the same time, Massimo Mangialavori focused on working with groups of remedies, Heiner Frei developed polarity analysis, and Jeremy Sherr, Misha Norland, Anne Schadde and many others proved a whole range of new remedies for homeopathy.
The Spectrum Network
Many homeopathic doctors and alternative practitioners were highly receptive to the new trends and innovative ideas. Narayana Publishers planned to produce a specialist magazine for this target audience that would be more affordable than books and would reflect developments in contemporary homeopathy. They approached the journalist Christa Gebhardt, who had previously worked in the fields of medicine and homeopathy, and her husband, the homeopathic physician Dr. Jürgen Hansel. The dynamic duo at the helm of the new journal "Spectrum of Homeopathy" benefited from the fact that, through organising international seminars, they already disposed of a global network within the homeopathic community. Patricia Maché and Deborah Collins soon joined the editorial team, taking charge of the English edition. They later also became responsible for the online magazine ‘Interhomeopathy’, which was similar in its editorial focus to "Spectrum".
16 years of printed editions
In October 2009, the first issue of the new journal "Spectrum of Homeopathy" was published, focusing on the theme ‘Childhood and the Psyche – Aggression, ADHD, Autism’. Despite a very short production time, the authors included many renowned homeopaths who have remained loyal to the journal to this day, including Jan Scholten, Rajan Sankaran, Anne Schadde, Michal Yakir and Massimo Mangialavori. Many new contributors have joined since then, and we are currently delighted to welcome younger homeopaths from Eastern European countries as well. From the very beginning, each issue of "Spectrum" has been dedicated to a specific theme. To this day, the editorial team places great importance on addressing contemporary clinical pictures, ranging from ADHD in the first issue through ‘burnout’ and ‘trauma’ to several issues on the pandemic and its physical and psychological consequences. However, the journal’s primary focus lies on expanding knowledge in materia medica. Through themed issues on various remedy families, an up-to-date library of contemporary homeopathic remedy groups is to be established. The field to be explored is vast: whether it be ‘lanthanides’, ‘insects’, ‘fungi’ or ‘matridonals’, there is always an enormous amount to learn.
Going online
And that is exactly how Spectrum is to be continued - from 2026 onwards, no longer as a printed edition, but – as the so-called zeitgeist suggests – with a new international online magazine, ‘Homeopathic Spectrum’. As printed magazines are becoming less and less profitable for publishers, "Spectrum" is now moving to the World Wide Web. With the bonus of a long tradition and an established network, whilst also enjoying the benefits of reduced costs and a wider reach. "Spectrum’s" mission will be, and remain, to further promote homeopathy as the magnificent healing method that it is.
